Meaning of the Flag

The national flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran is a tricolour of equal horizontal bands of green, white, and red, featuring the Islamic emblem in red centred on the white band, and the Arabic Takbir written 11 times each in white Kufic script along the edges of the green and red bands. The first official flag of Iran was adopted on 14 August 1905. A yellow flag was also used to denote Seljuk sovereignty over a town.

2. 1964–1980
   

   In 1964, the ratio was changed from 1:3 to 4:7 and the emblem on the naval ensign was shrunk to fit entirely within the white stripe.
